Rodger Gerberding recently won his sixth Award of
Excellence as contributor to the Western Iowa Art Show,
a seven-state gathering of work in various media. During
2009 he had four one-person exhibits of new work: The
Only Place I Live (The Center, Council Bluffs, Iowa); Ieri,
Oggi, Domani (Benson Grind, Benson, Nebraska); Owning
the Story (Michael Phipps Gallery, Omaha, Nebraska); and
For You (Taza's, Council Bluffs). Three books of poetry
with covers by him have appeared or will appear shortly, all
from Backwaters Press of Omaha. In October, he again was
Artist-in-Residence at the Lester Raymer Red Barn Studio in
Lindsborg, Kansas. Published in September, 2009 was You're
Our Man, a Leonard Cohen tribute volume from Foundation
Poietrie Publique, out of Quebec; there a poem by him shares
company with the work of Margaret Atwood and others. In
preparation is a second book of his poetry and paintings, The
Drunken Master, for publication in 2010. Also in September,
he shot a cameo (as lounge singer) in his third collaboration
with independent filmmaker Adam Fogarty ((Statusly
Fixtured, a full-length feature for which he served as art
director and ((salvation-fixated)) lead actor, will premiere in
July 2010). And he began 2009 as actor in Glorious!, about
the revered and reviled Florence Foster Jenkins, at the Omaha
Playhouse; he was Madame Jenkins' British, wastrel-actor
boyfriend. Peter O'Toole was well channeled, as per reviews.
Gerberding's work as artist and writer may be seen/read

FaceBook also contains him, no more uncomfortably than
any other mistress. Selah. |
