Helen Schoenfeld:
(08/14/1995) Rodger Gerberding writes, "Helen Schoenfeld impresses, in her work, by equality of positive and negative space. She is reminiscent of a long-forgotten artist, the Chicagoan Anthony Angarola, who illustrated just one book (The Kingdom of Evil), and who died at 37. Angarola's work, like Schoenfield's, is limber and unornamented, and strikes the viewer, therefore, as being of singular power and vision. Schoenfeld's work may elsewhere be viewed in Thin Ice, and Pangaea by Denise Dumars. The spare elegance of Schoenfeld's work, I may say, is far too little recognized in her chosen field."
