Joseph Campbell:
(08/08/1998) Joseph Campbell (not the one you're thinking of) was born in Kankakee, Illinois, in 1910. He studied, variously, in Europe, the United States - as a traveling sketch artist - and, particularly, in the Art Institute of Chicago. His work - in acrylic, pastel, oil, pen & ink -reflects a dramatic whimsy which draws, in turn, on notes take during his aforementioned travels; later pictures may be simultaneously stygian and bemused. Mr. Campbell was an avid book collector, amateur singer, and devoted bicyclist. He died, in Escondo, California, in 1993.
